Idle speed setting on a 460

I have a 460 CID 560 HP Ford crate motor in a 1970 Mustang with a C6 trans. The motor was originally set up for drag racing. I am in the process of converting it to a Pro Streeters. My concern is the idle. I can set the idle to 850 RPM in gear. When I shif to neutral the RPM climes to over 2500. I can set the idle in neutral and when I put it in gear, it dies. What should the initial timing be set at?

Probably around 8 degrees with the vacuum hose to the distributor disconnected and plugged.
