Smoke at idle.
Hey everyone. Just got the '64 chevelle going!! I finally got the 'glide rebuilt and added a high stall converter. The car rips now! One thing though: At idle it seems to smoke a bit (not blue, more like a grey/dark smoke). The exhaust smells rich and it'll make your eyes water/burn in a second. I'm thinking too rich of an idle mixture??? Also, from a standstill, when you mash the gas, it leaves a noticeable cloud of smoke...(same color). The car runs strong though, and doesn't bog or hesitate...
I'm leaning towards the rich mixture but any ideas will be awesome!
Thanks!
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
