I too had a 600 CFM carb on a pretty much stock 283. I wouldn't say it was over carb'd. A 500 CFM would work fine too though. I agree with others that you want a dual plane manifold and probably wouldn't want to go any bigger than 600 for a 283 cruiser.Sometimes NOW are the "good old days"...
