    car wont idle!

i just put new heads and intake on a 71 nova...the car idles real high when i first start it...then dies in about 7seconds...black smoke comes out between the intake and the heads only on the right side though...im going to replace the intake gasket...but if anybody can give me ANY opinions on what can be wrong i would greatly appreciate it...even if you also think its the intake gasket

    PLEASE HEEEEEELP!

    Thanks, Sean

Black smoke indicates a rich mixture whereas an intake gasket leak would create a lean mixture. So, if it is running rich, check the easy things first like, choke adjustment, float levels and fuel pump pressure. Then the power valve.
Objects in my rear view mirror are a good thing unless,.... they have red and blue lights flashing.

"black smoke comes out between the intake and the heads only on the right side". Fix the gasket LEAK first.

Absolutely, I would think that is a given. But one never knows, so, good point, chevydrivin!
