    Carb Issues

    Edelbrock carb problems I think????
OK, I'm new to this site so here is what I got (its a long story though)...

I bought a 78 F100 last Christmas and it came with a 351M with the Holley Commander 950 Pro TBI fuel injection system. I tried tuning it with my laptop but didn't quite get it. I decided to go the carb rout to get the truck going so I purchased the 1406 edelbrock ( electric choke, 600 cfm, vacuum secondaries) off of summit. I installed it and had problems right offf the bat. I was getting bogging at the begining of acceleration and after letting fo of the gas. I kinda fixed the one at the beggining of acceleration by finding that the acceleration pump was plugged and calibrating the carb with the calibration kit from summit as well. Now my problem is that the engine still dies after slamming the gas and letting go quickly and in gear but not in park. In park it revs very nice but when I put it in gear it stumbles when I floor it and then let go right away then it dies. I've checked the timing and tried different springs on the carb and still does the same thing. I also tried changing vacuum ports for the vacuum advance on the distributor and still not good. I've checked for vacuum leaks and found nothing. Does anyone have any cleu on this????????????

Engine components at the time minus the holley commander. The previous owner said the engineand trans only have about 10K miles on them since rebuild:

    Hedman super comp headers
Engine 351M bored .30 over rebuilt in 1998.
C-6 trans also rebuilt in 1998.
    MSD Pro Billet distributor.
    MSD 6A ignition box.
Holley commander 950 EFI w/Wide band O2 upgrade.
    New painless wire harness
    March performance aluminum pulley set.
    Edelbrock 2171 aluminum intake.

    Thanks for any help forthcoming....

Richen the carb a bit, bigger jets or smaller metering rods. I used to accomplish small changes by filing a flat spot on the small end of the rod when I couldn't find one the right size. If it runs good at cruise, metering rods with smaller tips will fix the problem.
