    NOS with Vaccum advance, and secondaries

     



    I have recently added a NOS system to my built 327, and I was wondering if there is a problem with running Vaccum secondaries, and a vaccum advance Distributor?

    Since Nitrous is pressurizing my intake manifold, am I losing my secondaries, and my timing advance every time I hit the NOS?

    when you hit nitrous you lose a lot of things, bearings, valves, cams...... but if you're running nitrous, your engine should be built to a point already that its not pulling much vaccum, so you might want to use a mechanical advance, and a double pumper.... probably suit your vehicle more... and remember, everytime you give her a shot of nitrous... consider it giving your engine about 10,000 miles of wear in just a few seconds

    Nitrous will do no damage to your engine (contrary to the above reply) IF your engine is built for it. Forged pistons?? Larger (more than adequate) fuel supply?? Do you have a means of retarding the timing when you hit the nitrous? You really need some safeguards, unless you're only planning on a 50 HP hit...and we all know you'll go bigger than that.

    If you want to run nitrous, plan on spending the money to do it right. Read up on it all you can, Im surprised at how many people think it will destroy your engine. I have plenty of close friends who have been running nitrous with NO damage for over 10 years now. But you have to do it right. You should have a dedicated fuel system for the nitrous. A timing retarder. A safety shutoff if the fuel pressure falls to low. All these can be purchased seperately, or you can buy a controller, such as a Nitrous Mastermind from Jacobs, or there are others.

    Remember, if you do it right, and use it right, no problems. If you dont, there will probably be many problems, and Im sure you dont want your parts all over the road.

    Oh, and no problem with your distributor or carb....vacuum in your intake has nothing to do with vacuum in your carb.

    one thing you missed... a rev limiter also.... that big hit of nitrous can push your RPMs too high if your not careful
