holley carb floods

hey i was wondering about a carb problem i have a holley 650 4 barrel..my question is ,when i start my car sometimes ill hold it over to long and the carb bowls will flood and cause a lot of smoke im guessing this is just my error and thats a normal problem when a carb is flooded? i was wondering if maybe i have too large of a carb?

its 350 electric choke i tap it once to get things started to answer your question no i dont pump the gas makes things much worse if the choke was sticking would that cause a flood?

Things that can cause flooding:

- Stuck choke
- Dirt on needle/seat
- Floats too high

Hello f-100352,Blown Burb here. I don't know if you noticed what I have been up too with my sons 71 El Camino, but it has a 750 dual feed sqarebore carb on it. One of the things I found out was that this carb is only supposed to be getting 7.5lbs. of maximum fuel pressure. You may want to be sure there is not too much fuel pressure that could unseat the needle and seat assemblies. This information came from the Holley Tech line and I wouldn,t think that a 650 cfm carb. would need more fuel pressure than a larger carb. Good luck and I hope this helps.
