engine shot

Got my truck out of storage and after taking care of mouse problem down carb, got it running pretty good. The only thing I noticed was it surged 200-300rpm and then would drop back to a steady 900RPM. Went to start it today and I could hardly keep it going. Had to keep it at 1500 RPM or it would stall. Ran real rough like it was firing on 5 or 6 cylinders. Might be broken valve springs, bad valves,jumped timing chain, fuel problem I don't know and here's the clincher. I've got a herinated disc in my back and I can't bend over anymore to work on the engine. Can't even pull my plugs. The engine would backfire from both carb and exhaust at a high idel of 1500RPM. I know there nothing down intake from the ground up mouse and the carb looked pretty good after cleaning it. It ran good yesterday, but not today. Any Ideas?

Having a mouse down your carburator,,would probably suggest that the mouse may have brought something in with him,,such as:
Straw,,and stuff to make a nest,,,and maybee some food like nuts,,etc,,,,,do you think maybee if something like a piece of an acorn shell,,or another nut shell may have made it into your intake and then combustion chamber,,,may have broke a valve,,or become jammed between one of the valves and seats??
Just a thought, I went out to my 75 caddy which was sitting outside since last summer,,and found squirrels living in the aircleaner,,,along with all kinds of nuts and stuff.

sounds like it sucked some mouse stuff down in the motor, but i wouldnt think it should bend a valve. may be stuck to a valve. keep runing it and run some cleaner through the intake might help. never had that problem. good luck.

Man Chevy ............ That turns a funny story into a not so funny story. Hope it turns out to be a cheap fix. Something simple.

Sorry to here about your back. Got somebody that can help with a compression test? That might narrow it down.

I bought my 36 Hudson Terraplane from a guy that had driven the car into the barn for a years storage. When he parked it. he pulled the distrib, to have it rebuilt. Long story short, when he re-assembled the parts and tried to start the car the next year. The engine would only rotate about 320 degrees. He got discouraged. I got the car.

I was going to use a SBC in the car so upon original engine removal. I removed the pan and there was the Taj Mahal of mouse nest in the oil pan. Complete with dead family of critters.

I cleaned it up and sold it to a guy who ran it in his 37 Hudson for years with no problems.

Mabey a mouse nut, er, acorn holding a/couple of valves open

maybe a little extra fire will help clean the engine.... a little starter fluid would do that....
