    Unhappy lifter's hmmm

    SO HERE THE PROBLEM

I PUT THE NEW TOP END IN THE TRUCK THIS SUMMER.BLEW TWO PUSH RODS JUST RECENTLY TWO INNA WEEK FOUND A VLAVE STEM TOP ROUNDED A BIT FIGURED WELL JUST CAHNGE THE VALVE OUT DECIDED AGAINST THIS AND OPTED TO PUT NEW HEADS ON... START TAKING IT APART AND FIND A LIFTER SPRING RELEASED AND SITTING IN THE VALLEY..WHEN I PUT THE TOP END IN I BATHED THE LIFTER'S IN OIL FOR A MONTH AND A HALF AND MADE SURE THEY WERE ALL GOOD TO GO WHEN I PUT THEM IN.THE FIRST PUSH ROD THAT WENT I THOUGHT I OVER ADJUSTED IT PUT A NEW SET OF RODS IN AND THAN IT WENT YESTARDAY SO I FIGURED WHAT THE HELL I WAS GONNA CHANGE THE HEADS ANYWAY TO FIND THIS LIFTER ON THE SAME VALVE AND CYLINDER THAT BROKE TWO RODS, THE RETAINER SPRING IS SITTING IN THE VALLEY AND THE LIFTER IS FULL OF OIL AND THE VALVE STEM TOP IS ROUNDED OFF....

WHAT WOULD CAUSE THIS IS THE QUESTION THAT I HAVE I HAVE NEVER HAD A LIFTER FAIL BEFORE SO I AM REALLY AT A LOSS ON THIS ONE..

    What's the engine?

I was going to mention pre-soaking the lifters can be an issue. I soak mine overnight, but I can still depress the cup with the pushrod by hand. I'm not looking to fill the lifter, just get *some* oil in it.

I know guys who fill the pushrod up, too kinda makes the hydrualic lifter almost solid, I should think...

THE ENGINE IS JUST A STOK 305 CHEBBY ON PROPANE THE TOP END IS COMPLETELY REBUILT SAVE THE VALVES AND THE STUDS...AHH NEW SPRINGS SEATS AND CAMSHAFT AND LIFTERS ALSO PUSH RODS ALL NEW WHEN IT WAS PUT TO TOGETHER PRE-SOAKED LIFTERS AND, INSTALL WAS DONE IT WAS ALL WITH GM CAMSHAFT AND LIFTER PRELUBE. SO I FIGURED I OVER ADJUSTED AT FIRST UNTIL THE SECOND PUSH ROD BROKE AFTER FIND THE TOP OF THE VALVE STEM ROUNDED A BIT AAND WATCHED THE ROCKER ARM DO A LITTLE DANCE ON TOP OF IT I WAS LIKE HMMM:AHHHH THATS NOT RIGHT...SO OFF COME THE HEADS TO FIND THE LIFTER SPRING IN THE VALLEY AND THE PLUNGER BEING HELD IN BY THE PUSH ROD PULLED IT OUT AND IT DOES NOT REACT TO PRESURE OR ANY THING SO OUT THEY ALL GO AND I AM REDOIN IT ALL EXCEPT THE CAM ...:
