Question about building a 383 stroker

Hey everyone. I just signed up here, but I've read a lot you guys have said. I have a question - I know quite a bit about engines (that is, given enough time, patience, and research I think I could do just about anything to my engine), and I was thinking about building a 383 stroker, starting with a bare block 350. Has anyone ever done this or have any experience with it? Is it hard to do (the really hard parts of it I'd have done professionally, but I'd liked to do as much myself as possible)? Anyone have any advice for me, or where I could find some info on building it? Thanks in advance

Wow, there are a lot of stroker topics O_O haha. I have a 1987 Camaro with a 305 in it now, with 150000 miles, so I figure its about time for a new engine (and to get rid of the girlie 305).

Good choice. With that many miles, might want to check the rest of the drive train to make sure it will handle the new found power.

Eagle put out nice cast steel 383 crank with nicely radiused bearing journals. It comes with the 350 main bearing size, and is balanced for the chevy 5.7" rod. they are at www.eaglerod.com

new rods

do you know of i need to get different rods and pistons also? or can i just drop a 400 crank in a 350 block and get 350 OEM size rods and pistons?

A 400 crank connot just be droped in....it needs to be machined down.....you will need pistons made for the swap...

Eagle as well as Scat make bottom end kits for you....all you need to do is the block work....you will need to grind the block for clearence of the crank and rods....
