HELP
hey i got a 74 chevy3/4ton that i got my 283 out of and anyways i am junking it out and i would like to know how you tell if the rearend is a possie track or not .
the ring gear is right in the middle instead of on the side hope somone can help!!
thank's:confused:

Simple, jack the truck up in the entire rear end so both tires are off the ground, put the vehicle in neutral if it still has a trans, spin 1 of the rear tires, if it spins the same way as the other, it's posi, if it spins oposite, it's not.
-
ok i will jack it up and nop done got the trans out and put it in my 79 thats what i'm thinking abought doing with the rear
-
More than likely it isn't a posi.
-
yeah i didnt think so but i never saw one with the ring gear right in the middel so i am going to find out in the morning.
and it looks like someone changed it before so i dont know and no one around here that knows anything abought rearends will look at it for me.
so thank's

Did you try out what Matt said to do? If so then what happened? His way sounds the easiest to me instead of opening the thing up.
-
The pictures are too dark to see anything, but it doesn't look like a posi to me. Do what Matt said.
-
i will do what he said when it stops raining. i will try to get some better pics later but i'm stuck in the house for now cause it's raining.
Thank's
-
ok here it is i jacked it up and i can turn one wheel and the other turns the same way but you can hold one still and turn the other one at the same time so does this mean its a posi??????
thank's

try spinnin the drive shaft or the place where it hooks into, it dose sound like it's posi but I'm not shure because of the wheel spinning when 1's held, there is a possibility it's limated slip also.
