I just scored a free '01 Mercury Marine 4.3, zero-hours on it. I want to put it in my '50 Willys Jeepster. Not sure I am smart enough to figure the stock computer and injection. First oof , never owned a boat so is this a decent motor for a car and second, can I run a carb and strip off the computer stuff?
4.3? is that the GM motor? Put in a bit of info, and it may be possible
Did you get the computer and wiring harness with the motor??? If you didn't, might be cheaper and easier to strip the computer and use a carb. My preference would be to keep the injection, good performance and low maintenance.

Mercuiser often uses GM engines with there own lower units.

If I had the injection components, this would be a turn key engine when installed in a boat. Any problems with using a marine engine in a car? I simply am not a boat man and don't know if the only difference is corrosion resistant coating and parts on marine engines.
I'd watch for the reverse rotation I've seen in some marine applications (No joke)
Reverse rotation is when two engines are used in the boat. One standard... one reverse. As advised check it out and be sure you have a std rotation engine. G.
edelbrock makes an intake for the 4.3 chevy a SMALL 4bbl is plenty 450 cfm or so maybe 600 with vac secondaries a 305 chevy truck rochester works fine with a stock to mild cam. cad and buick cars from the late 70's with the larger 4.1 buick v6 also came with a similar small qjet if you stay with the fuelie set up talk to a gm parts man they have a nice package cam and chip set for about 300 bucks.
It is the clockwise rotation (not reverse or clockwise). I like the thought of the 4 barrel manifold and going with vac sec. I do prefer to "dumb down" motor and run it retro. No computers for me on this one. Thanks guys! I am pushing for 300 hp and have an article (scanned and digitized) that did just that.
