After reading a bit in posts to this site discussing LEAD I started to surf the net for info on this heavy metal, I came across this intesting url. There seems to be so much discussion over this topic I don't know what to make of it...The gentlemen mentioned appear to be of the genious persuasion but possibly hold the value of the dollar higher than the value of life....what do you think. (its a bit of a read but I think worth it)

Yeah gherk, that's the same piece Streets cut and pasted the other day. The author has a definite ax to grind so has slanted the piece to fit his agenda. A more rational assessment of lead danger, and probably what has since contributed to lower levels of lead in humans, would include the paint on one's house. While airborne lead from auto fuel was definitely an issue, atmospheric conditions would "flush" the contaminant, whereas in the house it tended to "stay" more. And even with traffic considerations, folks spend more time in their houses than their cars.

As you well know I don't have much respect for an "article" that purports to hang the whole of a problem on one source, particularly when it attacks the business community. The socialist agenda is counter to my beliefs, and their need to blame all "problems" on free enterprise is idiotic. Lead in drinking water is still a concern in some areas of our country, and we don't have leaded fuel in use anymore (with the exception of some comparatively limited use in racing and flying). Since lead is a natural element in the environment good ol' "Mother Earth" is a contributor too.
Long read, but a vary interesting article and sources fairly well documented. I believe one must draw their own conclusions. Maybe our resident scientist (Don Shillady) could offer some thought on the matter.
It does appear to me,though, that the source is/was the problem.
why was it sometimes formulated with ethylene (di?)bromide? in case he knows
