    Thompson Performance Powerblast Plates

     



    I saw an ad for these on facebook and I wonder if anyone has tried them.

    I have a holley 780 vac sec on a 454 and was considering giving them a try to see if they improve throttle response.

    The idea is to reduce the size of droplets of fuel so that they will burn more easily, same idea as electronic fuel injection. On the one chart, they show that the motor made 13.6 more horsepower with the device installed, a cost of $2.94 per horsepower if you pay $40.00 for the device. With the current cost of horsepower being about $10.00 per horsepower, $2.94 seems like a pretty good bargain to me and I would be a player if I had a carbureted motor.

    Thanks for the response techinspector1. I will give it a try.

    Looks like it would be easy to make a template and copy the design for other holleys I may end up owning.

    I do plan to change over to fuel injection, I just need to save up some cash for that as I am sure there will be unexpected costs.

    I was thinking the same thing. Matter of fact, I began thinking about how I could increase the pressure in the accelerator pump well and use smaller diameter shooters.

    POWERBLAST PLATES
    So, I heard about these on this thread, checked them out on their website and decided to order two for my Edelbrock dual quads on my SBC. Ordering was easy Dan and Jaimie are both very nice people to work with and the shipping was extremely fast (2 days). These are very nicely machined and finished,

    Today I installed both POWERBLAST plates into my carbs, installation was easy, took about 30 minutes total for both carbs (for some it may take a little longer, I’m pretty well versed on carbs).

    Here’s the Good, Bad and ugly on these, WAIT a minute, THERE IS NO BAD or UGLY! These things ROCK!

    My carbs were tuned really well, with crisp throttle response no bogs or hesitation. Now the throttle response is even better, I was able to lean the accelerator pump settings. But even more amazing is the transitional throttle response is better (slow off idle response), I believe this is due to a better vacuum signal through the boosters caused by the plates. The increased booster signal made the carbs a little richer, but nothing a jet change and a few adjustments couldn’t fix.

    Overall carburetor performance is noticeably improved with the motor much smoother to drive. I would highly recommend these for any carburetor. In my opinion they are totally worth the price of admission.

    Maybe I need to look at getting these for the carbs for my 40 if I ever get around to working on that thing. haha
