    1979 350

Hi. I'm planning on building a 383 stroker and I'm looking for a cheap 350 block to use. I know of a 1979 350 4 bolt main for sale but I also know that during this time I know that this was a very weak engine. If I'm just using the block and putting in a whole new rotating assembly bore etc will it give me same amount of power I'm looking for from a different year 350 with more stock hp?

What are you looking for this motor to do? Drag Racing? Just a Cruiser? If you're swapping out the rotating assemble, are you goin gto use aftermarket heads and intake?
    Fuel injection or Carb?

    So many questions.. huh? LOL..

2 More, what's the budget target and do you have a machinist/machine shop chosen?

OH, Welcome to club hot rod, it's good to see you here!

The motors of that late 70's, early 80's era were low static compression ratio so that they could be operated on low-quality unleaded pump gas. The automakers were scrambling in all directions to appease the lawmakers in Washington as far as emissions and so could not build the high-compression motors that they had been able to offer the public just a few years before. A 350 block is a 350 block. Any of them will make a very good 383 and you can use either a 2-bolt main block or a 4-bolt main block. Either one will work fine.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY PARTS AT ALL UNTIL YOU GET THE ENTIRE BUILD ARCHITECTURE WRITTEN DOWN ON PAPER AND RUN PAST THE FELLOWS ON THIS FORUM. THERE IS OVER 1,000 YEARS OF HOT RODDING EXPERIENCE BETWEEN THE MAIN PLAYERS OF THIS FORUM.

I have some 350 blocks-what are you looking for? core? or machined ready for cleaning and assy?
