BA BA RA RA CU CU DA DA !!!
It's a shame you can't dig up another 273. I built on with a .510"
lift cam, oversized valves, single plane, and 11.2:1 compression.
It could see 8700 rpm before a shift.
The 318 is cool for now, though. Just keep it running well and
enjoy a little fuel economy. A big plus is the car looks good, too.
The Barracuda one of my bud's is building had a slant and a four
speed. We cut the towers away and set in a 440 with all the toys.
His is a '66, so the 440 and it's headers would not fit without a
little trim. Still deciding whether to use the four speed or a torqueflite.
You could buy another "fun" engine to build while you are still
driving on you 318. Most guys would love that luxury.
Oh, with the "changing gears" thing...remember, all you are doing
is changing the power curve of the car. If you get steep gears, the
engine will overrev on the highway.
Have fun...don't blow it up yet...and stay here with us.**)

Exactly! If you don't want to drive it on the highway get higher gears, but if you want to keep it respectable and still potent don't shot for the stars so quickly. I found the 3.23 is a nice gearto have.
