Another question guys and gals.
Building the 427 and the shop sold me a Melling M77 oil Pump and Screen. I can't get the screen on properly. I know it is supposed to sit 3/8 of an inch off the oil pan but to do that it will not mount to the oil pump. Maybe it is the wrong screen?
But they tell me I have the right one.
Perhaps I have a mental block? :)
Any help appreciated.
Screen I have is a Sealed Power 224-14258

telephone book and a open end 3/4 wrench take the open end part . radius the open end part with a die grinder . set pump on telephone book then you use open end around the tube collar on pick up then drive wrench with hammer or take pump to a engine builder or buy the tool to put the pick up on .should know were you want the pick up 3/8 off from pan bottom is fine use a adjustable square helps for height of pick up set square for 3/8 less for oil pick up. pump will need to be on main cap Do not drive pick up with oil pump on block pump is only on for depth setting hold pick up by hand mark pick up tube and body of pump so when you dive the pickup on oil pump the depth will be set. when pickup is on oilpump engine block i put a bag or tape up oil pump pick up check that the pump sets right buy using model clay setting a small bit of clay on oilpickup with pan on engine if clay looks 1/2to3/8 you can move pick up only if your going to tack weld it . melling pickup are very raely only a 1/4 off pan foor there only about 3/8 it fine good put a good tack weld on pump body then take and clean pump the take tape off pick up . this is a very basic way its been done. i take more steps when doing this as i tig weld the pick on on all pumps . i take bypass spring out and mark pump gears then check for trash in pump or casting sand lap the bottom plate pump well and do other stuff when i am in side the pump at this time clean all parts oil bypass valve check valve its working then build pump using thread locker on pump screws
