Well I got to go over to neighbors and rebuild a quadrejet on his boat that was his wifes fathers boat--1987, I think he said----been a long time since I done one of those--especially cramed down under the cover--------hope I don't drop anything!!!!!!!!!
Safe way Have them remove it. Then rebuild on bench
Nooooooo---I like to remove/disassemble things as that's where/when I discover the reasons that a lot of things that aren't right--also stripped fittings, etc and possible linkage problems also can see where things hook up for the re install---But a quadrajet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!not my favorite carb line-----
My carb rebuilding capabilities maxed out with the Stromberg 97 so I won't be offering you any advice.

Yeah the inlet can be a pain to get restarted, they seem to cross thread easy
did many at the boat yard used to pull the tops off the right on the engine in the boats to see what was the deal. lot of junk ended up in them . i was in the back of a 15 foot run about setting the points air gap when the boys from the inboad shop came right by me in a 38 foot cabin cruiser they were up in the fly bridge kicking up 3foot rollers so i been at the rodeo and i road that boat like a bucking bull with a set of feeler gauges in my handQuote:

was really crapped up by poor care/storage-split rubber hose on tank fitting--float bowl crappist I have ever seen--crud, crud and more crud-did I mention how cruddie the float bowl was???????? got all cleaned up and back together--runs nice but after a while was getting some excess fuel out of carb---need a new float--this one is so rusty I can't dare to bend it to adjust-----so holiday week end , probably be tue or wed before we get a float
use to see alot of white chalky junk .had a house boat was setting so long out side never was cared for the decks went soft ,one of the yard guys made the comment that he was hoping no one fell threw the deck. well was by far the worst carb i ever did when i was there . but when i was there them fine jobs ended up in my lap one hell of a place to work. back then i did drink some but boat yard was owned by a big irish faimly so i was very nominal . nothing like getting face of holding tank fuit punch in the face a story for another dayQuote:

never cared for working on boats much but i really did miss being on the water evey day till late fall .the boss wanted us to run the boats hard to find what the boats would do and get the problem fixed the first time. it was back in the late 80s i do miss the wild boat rides and when the 3 shops in board .inboard out board and out board shops were on the water all hell broke loose and dry land was your best bet
