Battery "sizzles"....
I have been working on the longroof for a week. Battery was out for a week.
While I was doing the carb swap I could hear the battery sizzling or percolating, if you will. It was disconnected at the time. When I put it back in tonight to fire the engine, it was doing the same thing. It has been sitting out of the car with no drain at all. What do you think is causing the battery to "sizzle"?

My guess is it was overcharged when you removed it. The "H" gas will make noise as it is released. Nothing to get real excited about unless you are a smoker.:3dSMILE::3dSMILE:
You may want to check your alt. for output??

I'd say Charlie nailed it, the battery was off-gassing hydrogen due to over charge. The internal regulator in the alternator may be going south on you, assuming it's not still running an external regulator on the firewall?

Thanks guys,
It's been re-wired for an internal regulator. I guess I'll pull it off and get it checked.
I also wanted to ask about voltage drop. The volt gauge reads almost 14v with the A/C off but drops to less then 12 when I turn it on. Any thoughts? I am thinking the alternator is a low amp unit (63 or less) and can't keep up with the A/C.
Gives me reason to yank it and have it tested anyway.
The wiring looks like it was well done. I haven't crawled up under the dash yet to check it all out but everything in the engine compartment looks good.

EVEN more reason to have it checked. The A/C power load consists of a solenoid, and a fan. Should not drop output two volts.

may want to check the draw of A/C unit fan clutch and relay. May be a bad unit causing the alt. to over charge.
