Oil filter and SBC 350 break in procedure.

What type of filter element (I mean size of smallest particle of contamination, in microns) should be used in case of break in procedure for small block chevy 350, buld from scratch.
It's mostly stock engine, all parts were new, out from the boxs.

Really, I don't know - the 10 microns filter may be clogged during break in after first start, and it may be cause of low oil pressure. Or its ok, but I should change oil filter 2-3 times during first 100km? (yeah, we heve kilometers here, not miles:LOL:)))))

What's your opinion?

Are you saying the oil pressure is low? If you think the low pressure is caused by a clogged filter, change the filter.

When breaking in a new motor, I used to stick a strong magnet to the outside bottom of the pan (near the drain), then just before draining the oil I'd remove the magnet. The idea was the magnet would collect the particles and hold them near the drain, then removing the magnet would release them to be drained out. It was a theory passed down, may not of done anything, but it couldn't hurt.

no, I have no oil pressure yet - my engine is not run yet, it's only in progress.
I mean, what type of oil filter should I use during break in procedure in first ~100km - 10microns, 15microns etc.

Thanks for advice with magnet! I have aluminium oil pan, but I can do something and fix the magnet. May be using of drain plug with magnet.

Smaller would be better IMHO.. Use the finest micron size. We used to attach the magnets to the oil filter casing. Then when you remove the filter for replacement, you toss the collected particles also, not leave them in the base pan. FWIW..

What is available for oils there? Do you have a break in oil available?

I have always just used a stock oil filter, run it for 100 or so miles and change the oil and filter. Then I do it again at 500 miles and 1000 miles. After that then just normal intervals. Probably a waste of oil and filter at the 500 mile change, but it has worked for me and I probably have built more than 100 engines.

I also run a magnetic drain plug.

More important on break in is the oil. Especially if your using a flat tappet cam.
Royal Purple has a break in oil just for the flat tappet cams, part # 11487.

unfortunately, we have no break in oil here and it's a little bit difficult to import it due to custom problems (the same with paint in spray cans and other fluids)

This is a good quality extreme pressure lube to add to every oil change, for use with flat tappet cams.....using an additive like this will allow you to use any off-the-shelf motor oil in a flat tappet camshaft motor.
