    EFI upgrade

with my stock 302 5.0 liter engine and a holley 2 bbl carb.
i wonder how difficult / expensive it would be to switch over to EFI?
keep in mind that i am new at mechanical stuff.
a hot rod is whatever i decide it is.

Pretty easy if you go with one of the throttle body injection systems, like Edelbrock's E-Street:
    Edelbrock.com - Electronic Fuel Injection - E-Street™ - Introduction
    or MSD's Atomic EFI package:
Atomic LS - Less Wires, More Performance
You'd need to get a 4-barrel manifold to replace your 2 barrel unit, but other than that it's pretty much plug & play. I think you'll be playing in the $2500 range, not counting your manifold, but you need to verify that with suppliers.

You could also find a 88 to 93 Mustang Gt with a blown engine and get intake, computer, sensors, wiring, etc and add it on for pretty cheap. Here's a bit of info on one way to do it...Mustangs Plus - Tech Articles - Project EFI GT (Page 2)

Randy is 100% right, but those OEM intakes are pretty much Butt Ugly, especially on an open hood street rod. Just sayin'..... Also, they are direct port injection (8 injectors on fuel rails), but they are batch fire control so they are very similar to the TBI units in performance.

I'm prepping a '92 Mustang 5.0/AOD to put in my 66 F100. I swapped the Mustang intake for the Ford Explorer intake because it's supposed to be worth 10-15 more horsepower. I don't think it looks too bad, but then I can also close the hood on it....

Beauty's in the eye of the beholder, right? I've just never been a fan of that massive cross flow manifold for an exposed engine. My son's Fox body Mustang had an Edelbrock unit, but still the same side to side flow path. They look fine under the hood, and with the room in your F-100 it'll look trick.

Well, the most beautiful part of all of it is I'm hoping to at least double my mpg's over what the old 352 gets!!! If it does that, I'm not too concerned about what it looks like!!

That new MSD system looks pretty sweet for someone who wants EFI but maintain a carb look....
