4 cylinder engine

I have a 1958 Ferguson tractor with a continental engine and Delco ignition. It is dificult and expensive to replace ignition parts. I am looking for a 4 cylinder distributor to adapt to my tractor. Tractors like Massey Ferguson's use the same delco points as on Chevy 4 and 6 cyl. engines. I was thinking of using a distributor from a Chevy Vega / Monza engine or perhaps a Volkswagon. delcos were used in many 4 cylinder engines like you said many parts cap points should work in your tractor .the cost of making a dist to work out of another engine could cost more then the parts to fix yours .i do not understand why you want to replace your old one ? you have to watch the dist curve for engine rotor rotation per fire order if your thinking of re working a new dist your old dist body will need to match your new one so you may need to make a new body out of a chuck of round stock and machine for cap .points plate. bearings . oilers .alot of work .you need to cross over your tune up parts and pick them up were there not costing you so much. many of the delco parts like curve weights point plate dist shaft could work or be made to work. dist shaft can be turned down dist body re bush for new under size shaft

I had dificulty finding ignition parts when I replaced them 5 years ago. I found the replacement parts for this repair. I'm willing to adapt another distributor for the next time I need points. I put a lot of time and energy into this tractor. It is a transition year tractor being one of the last Fergoson's before they became Massey Ferguson's. I understand the work required to adapt a distributor from another 4 cylinder motor. I don't think the advance curve should be a problem because the engine operates below 2000 RPM. If anyone has a distributor that I might be able to adapt please contact me

go on ebay look up boat engines 120 hp and 140 hp merc marine .i just built a engine for a guy and went threw the dist there many others that used delco but this will be the best for parts

or you could replace the points and condenser with a Pertronix unit one time and no worries about replacing anything but dist cap and rotor after that

Tractor Supply is a good place in my area that has the parts your looking for. I get parts for my 8N there and I think they are the same. Tractor Supply Company - Home I think

This might be an "Off the Wall" idea but check out 4 Cyl Distributors for Jeeps. I know a lot of people that have had some success finding a Jeep distributor to replace one in a vehicle where they could not find existing parts for any longer. Things to look at are distributor shaft diameter, length, etc. as factors.

i have the measurements for mine if the op needs em.
they are cheap.
