Gary, Jerry doesn't need defending by me by any means, but he's been down the track a few times in his career. He's a very knowledgeable (and experienced) fabricator. He's been to my shop, looked at my junk and didn't put the project down once. Even though the "Z" is my first attempt at building a car like this and I'm just learning as I go. (Read that as Jerry could have picked it apart but didn't). Any suggestions he might make come from a pretty good background in the fabricating/racing business.
BTW: Jerry, you owe me 5 bux now........:LOL: J/K :LOL:
whats a 4.0 thumb?
A 4.0 thumb is the one on a tranny brake button.**)
well? nope we do not need no stinking malt liquor ...:D just need to hit it .i did put the coan super sprag in it some time ago and has a 9 inch steel stator stall. vasco jet steel input art carr parts in trans/coan big joints drive shaft . HRW case 35 spline she just about bullet proof ?? drive train.i may have to give it the acid test**) NASA.. we have lift off:LOL:car carried the wheels before  :eek:THE BUSTER BUTTON:eek:
I got a starter button in my 88 firebird!!!!!!
Hey Pat.You still haven't given me a ball park figure on a BBC tall block set-up.
What O/D tranny do you think would hold up???.Not a Gear Vendors O/D.
I did find 3.40's rear end gear set-up for just short of $300.
Look at this trans---E-Bay 320652649026
And I just made a deal for 20 BBC core blocks
A 4l80 would also make a good trans for you --electronic control and OD also
Yep mark 4 2 bolt----there aren't any 4 bolters out there--we convert them for the folks that want 4 bolt---but the Dart is serving those kind of customers for the 540-632 crowd
Yep---some ARP studs and a good align hone--these blocks are lighter than the Darts or late marine blocks----if you wanta dozen or so ---you can set 9 on a pallet on bell housing end---
Soooo Gary
was that you that stole that trans ???/$1250-----!!!!!!
You must be talking to 1gary.......:LOL:
But then again, if I would have paid $1250.00 for the "Z" trans. that would have been just like steeling.:LOL:

If Pat and I come up with a engine,I'm lucky that Pat knows where there are virgins that don't need sleeves.
8.1 liter, 496 ci vortec with an allison 5 speed transmission and your done .
yep i pick up some blocks new from engine quest some time ago if you want to go this way i will just have to talk someone out of one i sold him 10 years ago or i know were a good tall deck is.i ran many cams thru the 526 cid i keep getting very hi TQ numbers past 700tq and past 90 percent:HMMM: efficient this is somewhat like real deal i built for a air boat some time ago .when i am done you can have tech or jerry run numbers if you want .techs has the same soft ware? on this engine it puts out 700TQ+ @ 2500 and 400 hp around 3800.i was playing around the efficiency with cams i came up with cams that are not hard to get made.showing 90 percent but theres going to be thremo and friction loss but i have a way around that;) right now just play with the cam numbers so i can get it to put efficiency off the chart . but there is going to be real world numbers
Tango-without the "dance",that is not under consideration. To be more blunt,my answer is no.
Now let's talk about "if" the RV(yeah not a truck) was yours.I am going to remind you for your own sake posting on any forum, that you can not assume a O/P's experience, backround, history,or for that matter anything else.Just because a member on a forum "might" be new, doesn't mean they don't have deep pocketfuls of a working backround. It is a safe bet to post on the basis of a person who have done at least as much as you and might be even more.So I suggest you check your ego at the door before you post.
I have read your posts in other threads and well,I think on this project,I am surrounding myself with people who are on the same page as I in terms of a goal for it and they do know how to build for it because they are professionals.
So I am saying with all the engines I have owned in the past,it is surely a safe bet I have considered the engine that is in there and decided against it's usefulnesses. My advise to you is when you consider a build, you need for that goal based on a comparison of "if" you spend one more dollar on a mod the amount of return you get in output.Loosely it that kind of outllook that has served me and my partner well in a drag race operation for over twenty yrs Sir.Kind of spend right, get it right.
So I think I have covered my thoughts pretty well on this topic.
Thank You For Your Time.
Save all your extra Money for Gas Bud you will need it all ! ;)
Just for a matter of ref-here is a pic of the rig:

Based on it being loosely a extended van front style I'll be looking to try to remove the engine from the front vs from the passenger side door.
Pat-I'll be looking forward to your PM.
Thanks
What ever motor you go with, if it is gas powered. Try to put a hydrogen reactor on it. A friend of mine built one for his toyota p/u (4 cyl) and went from 18 mpg to 39 mpg. the hp gain was unreal. When he turns it on when he gets up to speed (55) he has to let off the gas a little. He also put one on his 1 ton plow truck w/ bbc. It increased mpg from 9 to 41. Lastly, go airodnamic, if you feel ambishis. Cut 1 foot out ofthe back and 2 feet out of the front.
I do not want to open a whole another topic with hydrogen. This has been researched in depth.Suffice to say that GM in Roch had a explosion and fire at a refilling station and they have a overwhelming knowledge base compared to any shade tree mechanic. The explosion covered a 2 mile radius. The fact I am replying to this post at all is in the form of a warning to all the forum members that I care so deeply about.
So thank you for your input, but I wouldn't be installing that on anything I own.
