That is a casting number....doesnt identify much. The Identifier is located on the pad on the right side of the block on the deck surface just in front of the cylinder head.....the last two or three letters will tell all....get them and we can ID the engine.

I can't see any nubers up front to many brakets.
This is in our 72 Vette though I just found this site.
I'll have to pull the brakets off and look.

Thank God I made copies of Mortecs pages before they discontinued the site.:) They say it is either a 302 from a 69 Z28, a 327 from 69 truck, or a 350 from 69-80. Could be either 2 or 4 bolt. So I guess you need those numbers robot says to tie it down further.

Pad is visible just in front of right hand cylinder head.....there will be a alpha numeric sequence that usually starts with F and ends with two or three letters. The letters tell what horsepower, what engine size, what transmission, what induction, and what body the engine was installed into. The casting number only tells what the raw casting was.....like someone said, an 010 casting could be a truck or a Z/28 or something else. The letter code gets really specific.
Is there something specific you need to know? like is the engine original in that car?

on the site I found below. I got to get me another little mirror pen.
Mine fell out of my pocket last time and I rolled it over with my 3 ton jack.
My buddy is giving me on a good price to stoke it to a 383 for me.
Said he's got some parts laying around his machine shop he want's to use.

I have same block# Ive found 68-327or69-79-350with 185 to 370 hp with both 2 and 4 bolt mains in cars trucks & vettes.mine is tucked in a 36 plym. coupe cant get a look in frount of frount of heads but been told that # will help narrow possibles
