Hey fellow gearheads

again, I ask for your knowledge to enlighten a dark subject.

check out cyliinder 6 rockers in the enclosed pics. this is the same motor that was bending pushrods earlier.

are the pushrods supposed to be so close to the sides of the head? do you see anything else wrong, besides the rocker and rods?

I have a few ideas of what could be causing this kind of failure, but I would like to hear what you guys have to say first.

I still wish I built this motor first... arg! this is getting annoying and very expensive!

Looks to me like the rockers are offset and on the wrong valves or the rockers are just plain wrong for the engine..

looks like valve float may have allowed the push rod to come out of its seat in the rocker .. then perhaps the valve touched the piston ..the rocker appears ruined ..

Well----in the pic I notice that besides the damage to the push rod and rocker that the adjusting screws on those two rockers only just barely come thru the lock nut whereas on the other cylinders there is quite a bit more sticking up----can you teoo why? Shorter pushrods, shorter valves, worn out cam lobes, bent valves????

How probable do you think it is a bent valve? Wouldn't the motor smoke a little bit if so?

I am not familiar with the valve set up on this motor, can the damaged rocker be replaced individually or will the whole set have to be replaced?

Here is my diagnostic thus far:
1. Cam button (if so equipped)
2. Warped cam
3. FUBAR cam lobes
4. Bent rods (but what caused them to bend?)
5. Improper valve lash (too tight/ too loose)
6. Incorrect push rod size
7. Cam spacer (if so equipped)
8. Valve float
9. Improper valve train (as so suggested by Daffy427)

What do you guys think?

Are those PRO COMP Heads????, looks to me as the valve train is the wrong set up but also your push rods should not be that close but it just goes up and down so not much problem there, I would have to agree with the valve train floating and improper valve adjustment.

No, they are the iron heads that were on it from production... :(

Turns out, this happened when cruising down the highway at 60mph, about 2400rpm then out of nowhere, it happened and that one head's exhaust was making the classic "briggs & stratton" sound.

Engine builder and FE Ford expert still believe it is hydrolock from oil pressure.
Don't know what the pressure is because gauge does not work, working on getting a new one... they said oil filters without a bypass built in will cause oil pressure to rise...but doesn't the oil pump have a pressure release? It is a high volume pump in a 10 quart pan.

Man sorry to see the SOS going on there. Couple of things and one Daffy hit on. If those are the C5AE-6090-F medium riser heads they do have wider valve spacing than your stock FE head. You'd also need the correct width rocker stands. Medium riser and tunneport heads used a wider stand. If that aftermarket rocker setup is not for the MR heads that could be part of the problem. Something in the geometry is not correct. That's why your intake was carved up a bit around the pushrods. Correct cup and ball size to match rocker/lifter needs to be looked at too. Besides length as mentioned. I think those were addressed last time? When you introduce aftermarket parts the game can change and that's when things can go wrong. I hope all aluminum rockers and spacers they left the proper clearance when they shimmed everything? How close are you to Frisco? www.texasoutsiders.com ask to speak to Mark Artis. You need better help with this and Mark is the man. After one rebuild shop and the "expert" called in someone has missed something. JMO....G.

No where near Frisco unfortunately. :( I live right on the border of Mexico. Definitely willing to try a different shop. Hydrolock makes no sense. :whacked:

Where are the casting numbers located of FE Ford heads? And what numbers/letters should be expected?

Right between the center 2 spark plugs you'll find the head casting number.
