360 to 429
i have a 1976 ford highboy with the 360 block in it. i will be buying a 69 ltd with a 429 in it. within the next year or so i plan on putting in my high boy. some questions i have are, 1. can i keep the oil pan on the 429 from the car or do i have to use the 360's oil pan? 2. flywheel housings... i have a 4spd trans will the bell housing mount up from the 360 to the 429 (the car has a c6 in it) or do i need to take the bell housing off the c6? 3. flywheels the same for a 360/429? 4. motor mounts will they work from the 360 or can i use the ones from the car? 5. intake manifold bolt up straight acrossed? 6. 650cfm edelbrock carb on the 360 be big enough for the 429? thanks for your help guys

For the most part, nothing from the 360 will fit the 429 excep the carb. The bellhousiing patterns are different as well..
-
about the only other parts you can use are the sparkplugs and distributor cap, alternator, and pcv

I was just thinking...
Did they put 429s in 69 LTDS??? You sure it's not a 428?? If it is you'd be golden on the swap, all you would need is a flywheel.
-
I just looked it up. They had both in 69.. Learn something every day

my 360 doesnt even have a pcv valve just a hose from the valve cover to the carb... would a 650cfm be good enough? i plan on putting in the gears in place of the timing chain and a big enough cam that you can hear at an idle. would i have to change the oil pan of the 429 to accommodate my truck from the ltd?
-
you`re not going to put a 429 in place of a 360 without having everything that comes on a 429 straight shift motor .. as well as the frame mounts from a 429 truck .. oil pans wont matter .. all are front humped in those days .... find a 390 to put in it ..
-
what do you mean by front humped? oil pans? if thats the case mine is a rear sump pan....
-
perhaps i do not know what a highboy is .. front humped means the deep part of the pan is in the front of the motor .. where the oil pump would be located although there is rear humped pans on ford 460 vans .. i had to use one when i ran my 429 in the 84 tbird ..

Not a good idea to use them noisy old nasty gear drives in place of a timing chain and gears. They transfer way too much harmonics into the engine and will kill parts...
A 650 would be a good carb for a 360. Vacuum secondaries are a bit more economical to run on the street and when dialed in correctly they work great.
As for the cam, go with a mild cam that is matched to the rest of the engine. Buying a cam to get "the sound" you want will usually hurt performance more then help.....
