OK, thanks for the timing tips. Now I have another question. I'm running about 205 degrees when running down the road. The temp sender is in the head, so I'm thinking it's a hotter reading there than the intake. Would this be right? I figure the temp at the intake is probably 195 right?
I set the timing at 10 degrees advanced like you said. Someone also said the 3.70 posi with a 350 trans would make it run hotter too? There is a high flow water pump on it with a 195 thermostat. Thanks for your assistance and all your help.

With your engine full of coolant the intake or the head should be near the same Temp . You said running down the road ? Say 55 MPH with a 370 and a TH350 205 degrees is not bad . On a HP car 165-180 stat is the way to go . Also what Type of Cooling fan are you running ? And are you running a trans Cooler ? Is This your 31 Ford your Talking about ?

205 is in the normal range, which runs 195 - 210. I would not be concerned at 205. How is when sitting still in traffic? Do you have A/C? R134 runs hotter than the old R12, so in summer your running and sitting temp may go higher with the A/C on.
My 34 runs about 200 - 205 on the road, and then will climb to about 220 sitting for a short while. I plan to get a new fan and shroud (new CCI) this year to see if that will help a bit.Bob

Thanks for the info and help. It runs cooler while sitting. I have a trans cooler and the A/C is 134. I'm running a Spal Electric fan on it. No side panels and hood is on. So I shouldn't be worried about 205 degrees? I guess I will change the thermostat to a 180 degree. Now that high flow water pump wouldn't be the problem right? Someone told me they push the water to fast sometimes not allowing proper cooling. Again I really appreciate the help! Thanks. Yes this is my 31 Ford.

The high Flow water pumps can cause an engine to over heat . If there is no Thermostat or washer in the upper outlet that can slow down the Flow . Yes if the water is flowing to fast the radiator can not cool it down enough .

Thanks! If it keeps giving me problems I may just change the water pump. Just to see if it works better. I'm changing the thermostat to a 165 now. Really appreciate the help!!

Also You could Lower the Temp on your fan switch if need be .
