327 Sb
Ok, I took over someone elses headache and project. I have a 327 Chevy SB
it has an Edelbrock 600 carb and intake, with a good cam and roller rockers. Thats about all I know except it is 350 horse. Now someone told me to set the timing at 8 degrees above TDC. Does this sound right? Right now it's at 4 degrees before TDC and runs hot and like crap. Thanks for you help!

8 to 10 should be about right... Before you get too carried away on the tune up maybe a leak down test would be in order just to get an idea of what the general condition of the engine really is?????? A leak down test would show any bad rings, valve seals, or compression leakage....

I would start at 12 before TDC . If it pings back it down to 10 before TDC . It really is best to find out more about this engine . You could pull the valve covers and check what # heads you have . Also remove the timing cover and the Timing chain . There should be #s on the front of that camshaft . This will give you a better idea of what you have . Check the block casting # it could be a 262-400 ? You just never know with these SB Chevys what you can have .
