    Starter Heat Shield???

I have been told I need a heat shield for my starter. (350 crate HO 330 hp) Does this sound reasonable, if so what kind of shield would work?

You may not need one. Chevy has placed their starters there for 52 years. However, if you do want one, check these out. They're bolt ons.

Changing plugs behind shorty headers is fun, isn't it?

Henry Rifle, thanks for the list, I ordered the first one. Note to the originator of this thread that the bolt holes for various starters are not universal. I previously ordered one from Speedway that not only does not fit my starter on a SBC 350, but the shape has no metal where I would need to drill new holes. Maybe I'll get one that fits this time because it looks different than the one from Speedway. I went to a local Chevrolet agency and asked for a 1976 Corvette 350 starter heat shield and they said "huh?". I guess they don't carry parts back that far even though the basic SBC has remained similar since 1955?

I bought one of the cheap heat blankets from the parts store, and it helped out a lot! My hooker headers were real close, so it caused problems in the heat department.

Based on many years of running small block Chev engines in hotrods---If you are running with no hoodsides on a thirties era car, you won't need a starter heatshield.
