What kind of car do you have that you would like to put that 4 speed in ? I have a 1965 Mustang with a 289 High Perf with a 4 speed . Its a bit hard to drive with the HD clutch thats in it . But I do like to dump the clutch at times .Quote:

I have had several flavors of Mopars over the years, everything from the 273 to the 426 Hemi. The most reliable of these was the 318. Reliable and durable, though not much of a go fast engine.
Although there have been several 4 cam versions of American engines and some very successful ones at that, when I think of cams and cammers, mostly I think of the Italians, like the 3, 4 and 5 liter 4 cam V-12's street cars or the F1 cars with 2.4 Liter V8's cranking out 780hp at a 19,000 rpm redline. Seeing those beauties running at WOT makes me really appreciate the marvels of engineering.:cool: :D

...to look at? Any nostalgic motor with a "rep". SOHC Ford is at the top, with early Hemis and 409s close behind.
...for a driver? Whatever goes down the street with minimal problems. I've had mostly SBCs, but my truck has a 460 that gives me no problems.

the best and buy far the easiest to get parts cheap is the small bock. chevy has the best power for dollar and not needing much of anything done to make them live. the engine that makes good power with smog heads is the big block chevy .NO need for rare over the counter bs just a old two bolt main cast crank o port heads 3/8 rods and some cam and very small bit of head work and you have a world beater you may not win every race but you will be there every time to race. i built and been around alot of the low dollar big blocks they are one of the best bangs for the buck .so if you got to be a hater this is good place to start .big block chevy power is what i like but they stop at 454 in easy cheap form :D but i have made them bigger many times:whacked:
When I was in high school the Ford guys would all run 289's with the 69-70 DEOE 351 Windsor head? I think that is the combo. A friend had that in a 66 fastback with a Schneider 560" lift solid cam with a 4-speed and that car was fun to drive in.
I also had a Dodge van that had a 318 with over 200k miles that never was apart . And it ran great and had more power then any 305 Chevy that I ever had . :cool:Quote:
