How can i beaf up my 350???

I have a rebuilt 350ci SB Chevy that's bone stock other than a Weiand intake, headers, and a Holley 650cfm carb. I want to get 350 HP but i also don't want to spend much. Can you help???

Get a set of Vortec heads from Scoggins-Dickey, check Ebay for a Vortec intake, and change the cam. Make sure the cam lift is in line with the max lift for the valvesprings. You should be able to do that for a grand and get you close to 350hp. Remember, your best power will come from well matched parts rather than from the biggest of everything. Research what performance parts work well together.

Get ready for another re-build. Among other things: a new cam, lifters, springs, and heads. My 350 is at about that level with basics such an inspired cam and fuelie heads and a c.r. of 10:1. Loves the open road more then the city streets and it's not always street friendly. It might be tough to do it for $1000 or less, but probably not impossible with the right mixture of goodies.

I would normally recommend a new crate motor, but even if you were to sell your motor you don't have the budget for a 350hp replacement, so buying the go-fast parts you need might be your only solution.

There are enough motorheads here to give you all of the specs on things you will need. So I will defer to them to give you the particulars. Good luck with your build.

Absolutely correct!!! A matched cam and heads will do it easy. Don't get all nuts on the cam.... Too big will kill the power... Shoot for a cam that is making it's best power from 1500 to 6200, that's where the Vortec heads will be putting out their best power!!!!

Lots of problems lately on new cam break in....I would also suggest when you break in the cam do it with some very light valve springs!!!!

A set of Dart Iron Eagle or World Sportsman Heads at around 190cc intake port size will give you around 30-40 more HP. A nice not aggressive cam of 218/224 at .050 duration will give you another 20HP. The heads alone will cost you the grand.

You could try porting your heads out, then a cam swap. It would also be a good idea to get a cam degree kit from Comp cams, or somebody,and dial it in. You might be able to get 350hp with that. Depends how good of a job you do on the heads and th cam. This should come in well under 1000 bucks. Lust my opinion.

With $1,000 to spend and an engine that's already rebuilt, you'd be far better off starting at the other end of the car. You don't need a whole lot of horsepower if you bolt in a short gear and looser converter. You'll think you've bolted a blower on the motor with these changes.
