I have a 66 Tri-Power on top of a 68 400 engine in a 1971 GTO. I am having an issue when I use the gas it feels like I have a stop in the foot pedal that when I push thru it hits the gas and causes the tires to squeal a bit but worse it's hard on the equipment. I don't know if the cable is bent or what. Any advice or suggestions from anyone?

Sounds like either the linkage is bound up some place, or perhaps a bent throttle shaft...
Yep. Start by removing the cable from the carb and move the linkage on the carbs through it's full range. See how smoothly it operates. If it is ok, have someone gently step down on the gas pedal while you hold the end of the cable or linkage, putting some resistance on it. See if you can detect any binding in the movement.
If you did encounter sticking when you just did the carbs by themselves, you need to find out which carb is the offender. Remove the linkages between them, and operate them one at a time to see which one is binding.
Like any diagnostic job, you are doing process of elimination. Keep removing items from the mix until the bad one shows up.

Are the outer carbs sticking shut? Sounds like the linkage may be almost overcentering. Make sure the throttle arms aren't "laying back" too far to permit easy initial movement.
Thanks for the response guys. The issue is either in the cable itself or the linkage as suggest. On Pontiac Tri-powers I am running on the center carb only until I kick it down to open the front and back two. So, it's either in the center carb which will be proved out by doing exactly what Itoldyouso suggested or it's a bent throttle shaft as Dave said. I'll check that over the weekend and see if I can isolate and fix the problem. Thanks again for your help!
