When to cut the ridge?
When is it absolutely necessary to cut the cylinder ridge? Of course it gets cut when the cylinders are bored but I am not boring the block,just turning the crank and replaceing rod/main bearings. Wouldn't think that this would make any difference in actual stroke or piston travel. Cylinder walls are fine and piston rings are fine(no blowby or low compression)and no other machine work is needed. Obviously,I'm trying to save money and need the vehicle running soon.

With what your doing you might get away with out reaming the ridge, but if it were me I'd ream the ridge hone the cylinders and replace the rings.

The whole point of cutting the ridge is so you don't break the pistons when you remove them. I was always of the opinion that if the engine had enough ridge to worry about, it needed reboring anyway. From the sound of your post, you aren't pulling the pistons, just doing the bottom end. If so, don't do anything to the bores.

Yes,just concerned with the crank & bearings. No need to pull pistons and bore as far as I can see.

Right. No need to cut ridge. When you said rings were fine I ASSUMED you had pulled the pistons.

Your not quite doing things the way I would but you should be just fine with what you are doing
