my 200 I6 will be turbocharged to 6 PSI running 8.2:1 static comp ratio, also will be fuel injected, and timing will be retarded when boost comes up. will I need forged pistions? I can get forged custom to my specs Ross Racing Forged Pistions for $589 per set of 6 including pistion pins and rings, but I can get a standard rebuild kit with stock cast pistions for $336, $17 more with moly rings
gosh matt i am no expert on this but i would think if your going to cram 6 psi into a 200 i shure would get forged pistons to keep it together.
I was thinking that way. the guys on the Ford 6 forums think that stock cast pistions will hold fine but, just seems like there not enough.
They may or may not be enough. However, is the $236 difference worth the insurance?
well, I don't know, I know the rebuild kit W/O pistions is $207 I think. but if I sent the stockers into meltdown from going lean under boost and a rod went thru the block, that's a bit more than a $236 but then again the forged pistions could do the same. I don't know is it worth it?Quote:

yep. I can have them any way I want too, there made to order. If I cannot get a rebuilt larger chamber head so far ( 2 rebuild companys, the 1 that Advance auto deals with and Marshall engines, both have no cores of the better EO casting head, I'll keep going back thru the years but I don't have my hopes up), I'll get the pistions with a 10cc dish, the better heads have 10cc more in combustion chamber volume, I'd just need to make that up.Quote:

IMO forged pistons are just like insurance..... You probably don't have to have it, but do you really want to take the risk??? I'd say go with the forged, get here all dialed in, then if you want to up the boost or put some NOX to it the bottom end is ready for it...

If you can afford to build a blown motor don't skimp out on the pistons for heavens sake.

You will notice that the steering wheel is mounted to the tractor cowl, wonder what it felt like to have the steering wheel jump out of your hands like that ? :eek: Maybe the expression on the guys face says it all :rolleyes: :)

I used Ross custom forged flattops (0 deckheight) for my rebuild (only ones that would give me my 11 to 1 static CR wich I wanted)...:HMMM:
make sure you have your specs ready, 'cause they will want to know a lot. Had the machinist bore the block to the Ross spec sheet, wich accompanied the pistons.(some minor clearance differences, depending on the use, like naturally aspirated or blown...you already voted for blown...so...)
one question though...
your intended heads are 10cc's larger and you still want a 10cc dish in the piston? how much will your CR drop then? I'm not into the blowing tech, but wasn't 8 to 1 an acceptable cr for blown motors, already?...:confused: ...(or was it 6 to 1...oh...well...now I can't even make any sense of my own ramblin' anymore...:HMMM: :LOL: :HMMM: )

I was going to get a newer cyl head for my engine ( bigger valves, ports, and combustion chambers ) but couldn't find 1, they would have been 10cc's bigger in the combustion chambers, 62cc instead of 52cc, which if I did I would have needed a flat top to gain 8.3:1 comp ratio, but being I'm just rebuilding my stock '67 Head, I will need a pistion with a 10cc dish to gain the 8.3:1, blower motors can varry from 6.1:1-9:1, but higher comp, less boost.Quote:
