as alot of you know by reading my posts, i just installed a voodoo cam in my 350 chevy part number 60103.i was talking to a guy who has the same cam,but in a big block,and can idle at 850 with no load. i tried it and it really lopes but when i put it in gear it only idles at550 and barely runs. im thinking its my converter i bought from jegs, its one of theirs,12" 23-26 stall does it sound like i need a different converter?
well 350 and 454 cubes first off.The cam ,if I can remember right will tighten things up with more cubes.The same cam from the 350 will "smooth out" slightly in a big block.It could also be your conv.,but you can't judge by the same cam in a big block.
understand , were do you think this thing should idle in park? can you help me there?
i had this problem with my FE my problem was that i wasnt getting enough fuel a idle, most of my problems due to ideling have been carb problems
i think mines converter related the carbs brand new and i didnt have this problem until i changed the cam , I THINK I SHOULD HAVE WENT WITH A CONVERTER FROM A CONVERTER MANUFACTURER
yah i have had a few friends with this problem they replaced their converter and it helped
Getting the correct conv. for your cam is a big plus!
True converter can be playing into it (perhaps in large part), but don't discount the carb just because it used to work fine. A radical cam will lean out the mix... try to readjust your idle circuit for max vacuum and it might just idle better.

thats the problem i had after replaced the converter it still wouldnt idle so one day i was adjusting the idle air mixture or whatever its called and all the sudden it started ideling in gear
In my opinion, I see two problems here:
1. faulty converter
2. too much cam for the static compression ratio

Your 60103 has a 0.050" duration of 227/233, way too much for a 9:1 motor. Lunati recommends a 2,400 stall converter.
faulty converter
let me refrase that. Im not trying to be smart, i appreciate youre advise techinspector,and youre knowladge. i should have known better when i ordered a 12 inch converter
i spoke with a genlemen from lunati who is very knolageable it might have been this harold that every one talks about he spoke with me for about a half hour on how to get this cam to work for me for my intended use, being that i was a little low on compression we had to figure a way to increase cylinder pressure ,by overlap. the cam runs real strong from 25 to 6000 with 15 inches vacuum at 750 , the problem im having is trying to get it to idle in gear at a low rpm and to much advance at half throttle, i will figure it out , and i realize that a small cube motor is going to make the cam sound bigger and act that way, if i turn the idle to 1100 and in gear at 750 i have no problem but you cant hear the cam no more, and as far as the pinging ... ill disconect the vacuum from the dist. all together and see what happens,ill also have to replace the springs and weights for my advance, the carb is adjusted for max idle capability by using a vac gauge, i was just wondering if any one used this cam and were they idled , i still beleive i was misled by jegs saying the converter would work
Keep us updated.Also I had a hard time getting a good answer from jegs,summit,and the cam company for the correct converter.Theres a lot of variables in getting the correct one for your application.

i have to tell all of you, i wrote a e mail to jegs told them i was dissapointed in their coice of coverter for me.. what happened was i asked about jegs 10" converter 27-3000 stall and the tech said i would be better off with their 12" 22-2500 stall .i purchased the 12" and i feel its not the right one ,the car drops in idle to far and if you turn the idle up it pushes through red lites.
i recieved a reply from someone at jegs thaat told me thats the choice he would have made also, but pull the converter out of the car and thell replace it with what ever i want...pretty cool, i wasnt expecting that:D so in the mean time i called jegs and spoke with a tech that told me i need the 10" 27-3000 converter[the one i

maybe the cam is leaning out your idle circuit a little big.... a bigger cam will pull lease vaccum and that would cause the carb to not give as much fuel at idle as it was before.... try richening your idle circuit up and see if it stabalizes a bit
if youre talking about the idle mixture screws on the front of my brand new elde 600 i did that with a digital tach and a vacuum gauge to the max rpm and turned in a quarter five times i did with the same results
