It's been my experience that a Holley set directly on a spreadbore manifold doesn't work as well as one that is mounted on a spacer. The spreadbore design messes up the vacumn signal to the Holley.
I am running two one inch spacers (one per 4 bbl) on my '27, and also have one on the 5.0 in my Jeep. I just felt it would get the carb up a little from the intake heat, and they also give me some clearance for the throttle arms and linkage.
I don't have any scientific proof they do anything like create a tunnel ram sort of airflow, but I have just always put them in.
Don
we can't get a spacer cause of air cleaner hits the bolts that hold the hood scoop on its a long story but anywat we are going to try a drop down air cleaner base now,,,, would any of this cause the 4 bbl not to kick in it is a vac sec and we adjusted the float and it has gas in it but we can get it to kick in we have change the spring to the smallest ( 1620 ) maybe ??? ohhh man its really hot under there everything is hot the carb is hot too what do you think ???
Go to www.summit.com and type in carb spacer. Trans Dapt part # TRD-2063 should work for you in conjunction with a drop base air cleaner. The spacer is a tad over 5/16" and with a drop base air cleaner it should solve your clearance problems.
ok whats is the beat way to see if the 4 bbl is kicking in or not we have vac sec and we don't think they are kicking in is there a test we can do ???
well you can jack up the rear end so that the wheels dont touch the ground and leave the air cleaner off and watch the carb as you accelerate in gear and punch it..... you'll see them open and dump fuel....
