when switching an hei dist to an outside coil I replace the top cover thing with the one that is hollow and basically just has a flat metal strip to lead over to the conductor that extends through to the inside of the cap.

My question is: Is the connection really supposed to be nothing more than that flat metal strip touching that copper spring?
