4 Cylinder and drive train

I am new to the board and would like to say this appears to be one of the best on the net. After looking through virtually every hot rod magazine I could get my hands on over the last year I have settled on a '27 Trac T as my first rod to build. I've restored many a Brit car over the past thirty years and have finally decided to take the plunge. However, I grow weary of the obligitory SBC, SBF with the auto trans and would like to try something new. Given the weight of the Trac T I plan on using a Toyota 4GE engine and drive train. (I hope this isn't blasphemous:) I would appreciate any information or advice you good folks could provide.
As I said this is my first build so be gentle.

Thought about building a track T some time back, but the thought of 4 banger power.......I just don't think I could get into it. Well, maybe if it was a 270 Offy with a set of Hilborn's hangind off the intake side of the head.....

I'm sure a toyota drive train would work fine, main drawback would be resale on the car when you're ready for something else. Lot's of nice lightweight V-6's around that can be had pretty cheap, too. Or maybe a 2300 OHC Ford engine with the Turbo and a good 5 speed behind it. Nothing sez the T's have to be automatic trannys. If you could find one, the little all aluminum Buick V-8's would be kewl, too.

what about a 151 cube Nova 4cyl? easilly workable in a T. 2.3 Pinto motors are also a good option. Even if you wanted an I6, Ford 170-250's would make a great motor for that, 200-250's can be found in 1970-1981 Ford Mavericks, Mercury Monarchs and Ford Granada's, and the granada/ monarchs had an option of a 4spd which is very simmilar to the Toploader, For auto's, they all had C4's, and the 250's have the SBF bolt pattern so any SBF trans would bolt up.

how about a nissan SR20... very reliable, and theres tons of aftermarket on them the 4GE puts out around 110HP while the SR20 puts out 160.... that'd be the cheaper way to go.... if you're willing to dump a lil more money.... you could get one of those subaru WRX motors and get around 250HP, along with the ability to use an all wheel drive transmission... now that'd be a fun project
