Vacuum Advance
What would cause a vacuum advance solenoid to snap to full advance at idle? I know I can get better gas milage if I hook up my vacuum advance, but when I do it immediatly goes to full advance. Full vacuum advance that is, not full ignition advance. If I set 8-12 degrees at idle, it will jump to 16 or 20 as soon as I connect the vacuum line.

you have it hooked up to manifold vac, if you dont want it to do that hook it up to ported vac. **)

yes that is what you want? full vacuum would be at the base and ported would be not on the base but above the base to find it use a vacuum gauge

Keep in mind you'll probably run into an overheating problem in summer traffic if you run ported vacuum.
Manifold vacuum is what you want, engines need the extra advance at idle to have enough time to burn the lean idle mixture.
