Head Bolts
Is there any reason that I should not replace the head bolts in a '76 Cad engine with grade 8 bolts that I can buy locally and for a lot less money than ones that are offered as replacements by parts suppliers?
The engine will be stock.
The ones I took out are old and cruddy looking and have definitely seen better days ...... (come to think about it, that description pretty much fits me, too).

Use any bolt you want so long as the length and thread are correct and you use the proper tightening rotation and torque values.

If you can get them locally, and cheaper....same grade and thread, correct length....I agree with Tech1, I am always a fan of saving money.

The factory head bolts are grade 8, I believe.

I just did a 472for a 51 Merc project, and according to the guys at flash cadillac, you really don;t want to reuse the originals anyway.we used a stud kit, you can get more info from them at www.cad500parts.com
