My ultimate goal is a bullit proof engine. I spend a lot of time way out in the desert away from help.
I have a stock 1979 chevy blazer with a 250 intergrated head. Will a non-intergrated head bolt on with out a major refab?
My plan is to swap heads and then go with a Clifford manifold with TBI. Yes I plan on all the other changes like exaust, air filter ECT.
Last question, for now, 250 I6 or 292 I6.
In your opinion, will a TBI setup be more bulletproof than a carb setup? Do you get the vehicle sideways/tilted so that a carb wouldn't work as well because of the fuel bowl/fuel slosh?
Yes I have goten into a steep or off camber enough terrain that I lost fuel. This has been rare.
I am not fully sold on carb or TBI at this time.
I have worked on my own truck for years, but only repair or replacment of stock items with like items. So I have much to research as this project comes together.

The heads are interchangeable. A 292 would make lots more torque. A carb can be fixed out in the boonies, EFI can strand you.
So 292 w/carb, sounds good.
Any other information or ideas? Oil cooler, electric fan ECT.

KISS....Keep It Simple Stupid! For reliability, belt drive fan and no external oil lines. GM HEI ignition with spares on hand.
We hunt coyotes in the dead of winter, and reliability is a must at 40 below in the windswept prairies. Two spare tires, a wagon (or "sheepherder") jack , spare belts, etc.
