Hey I've got a problem here
I have an 82 chevy el camino with a stock 267 v8 and a 350 auto matic trans. I want to either beef up this 267 and rip off all the smog junk or if better drop a 305 in it . Could some one give me the pros and cons on this? Or should I drop a 350 in it. Will a 350 bolt up to my trans? I want a nice street machine not a dragster. Would someone out there help me with these questions?????

Any small block 262-400 is a bolt in and is compatible with all of your accessories.
Lose the 267, forget the 305, and build a big inch 350. Torque is the answer for the street in a car (truck) that heavy.......JMO
scooter, i have an 86 el camino and suggest you checking out elcaminocentral.com for more information on them and engine swaps, i am dropping a 350 into mine right now and your trans should bolt up, however your rear end might not handle the power of a built 350, refer to the site i linked for more information
I gotta go with the other guys on this one. Find a nice deep lake, tie a chain to the 267, and through in to use as a boat anchor. Any building for performance on that motor would be a total waste of time. A 350 or stroked one to 383 would be a lot better choice and much more cost effective.
Yeah, the 267 is 4.4 L and there all rated at 115 HP, also are you shure it's a 267? they were produced from 1979 to 1981, your '82 would only have it if it was put in after or happened to be a leftover that a dealer put in b/c the customer wanted the smaller engine.. It could be a 305 but that's junk too. However, the oil pan could be reused if you bought a short block SBC, the 2bbl intake too. If it is a stock 4bbl, it's a shure sign it is a 305 because 267's were all 2bbl. If you rip all the smog off the engine it ain't gonna do much, you might get 130 hp, maby.

350 it is and I will check out the rear end for the added power.

The rear end should be a normal 10-bolt GM, nothing wrong with a 350 in front of that.
