Cubic Inches vs Liters

Metric is so much easier when it comes to finding the right socket/wrench.The only oddity is that 5.5MM that some Ford and others uses. Both of my vehicles are American made, and have mostly SAE fasteners, but I'v been known to grab the metrics to work on them. 14mm fit's almost exactly 9/16" and 13mm" fits almost exactly 1/2". 10mm is not quite right for 3/8" and 12mm is not quite right for 7/16". There actually a little closer tolerance than the actual 1/2" or 9/16" socket/ wrench so they fit nice and tight.. I do have more SAE tools than metric. I don't buy a metric fastener unless the bolt is captive and I need to. So much easier to remember 3/8" course or fine thread for example, not so easy M10x 1.25.

Another nice thing about these moldy oldy threads popping up is nostalgia. It reminds me how much I enjoyed the humor of Walt Zander (RIP).

I always figured it was the chebbie guys who started using the "litre" phraseology because it sounded better when they had to tell someone that their 350/350 Whaever got whooped by a 5.0 Litre then it did to admit they got whooped by a 302 Mustang????????;):LOL::LOL::LOL:

I whooped that 302 mustang (Avrid Boyken had dumped boat loads of money into). with my 389 66 GTO. What really ticked him off was his then girlfriend had the same car (well a 67 GTO) so he was ticked that she could most likely whop him too.

the only 5.0 muskrat that ever gave me a fit was a one that some guy put a 440 mopar in it . i gave him a car length with the 50 chevy at the time i had a mild 454 in it

If you've never seen and fast 5.0 Mustangs, it's gotta be because you won't look at them.... Not even counting the new Coyote 5.0 that does a bit over 700 hp in street trim and still gets 25 mpg!!!!! The world of EFI, DOHC, Whipple Superchargers and the like is very exciting and very fast!!!!

Hate to say it, or to see it but I'm afraid the days of pushrod engines and carburetors are coming to a close.....Whether we like it or not.....

over head cam engines have been around for a long time .so what ... i build a hell of alot push rod engines and still will 10 years from now if i am not in the dirt by then. you do build what you want ? if you do not want to build any thing go buy a new car most guys do not have the money or do not want one as for a new ford or some of GM stuff that i have drove down the street or went for a ride in there fine. if thats what you want . just like the Harley guys still pay to make them run faster pay me to bore them out and head work or a flat head guy . they could buy a faster bike or the flat head guy buy over head valve engine or heads $$ to make more power .600+ cid on the street pump gas with all steel car no 15 wide back tires with no computer to help you drive or help you make power ,that.s the fun? of this hobby ? if not there is a show room in evey big town

Pat, did you read this part of my post or just tee off on me because of what you thought I said????? Geesh!!!!

I guess I could say you haven't had fun in a car till you've been in a 1500 pound sprint car with 750 horse, right foot flat on the floor and driving into turn #3 at Knoxville...... Street is fun, still play there myself!!!! But, if you want to be the best you have to race the best and they're at the drag strips and dirt tracks all over this country!!!!

At the dragstrip, you're paired up with an equal car and it comes down to the prep and tune up of your car plus the abilities of the driver.
On the dirt track, it's you and about 20 other equal cars going 20 to 50 laps and again car prep and tune along with the driver's ability determines the winner.

On the street, I've snuck up on 305 Camaro's that think they're fast and blow them away with a daily driver!!!! Besides, with fuel at $3.50 a gallon, just how much driving can one afford to do in a mega inch car with a humongous Holley or two on top of it, and if the streets there are anything like here, how the heck can you hook it up anyway???? Oh yeah, and where you going to do it without incurring the wrath of John Q. Law and his outrageously overpriced tickets????

If I can have 500 USABLE horsepower on the street and still get good fuel mileage while I'm cruising down the highway with the A/C on, why wouldn't I do that???? and Yes, I'll build it not buy it off the showroom.....

Yes Pat, I've ran sprints on dirt and rear engine dragsters at the track. Thin skinned? No, just tired of trying to explain something to someone who has to be THE expert on everything.....Isn't that a lot of self-imposed pressure????

I'm sure a 632 cubic inch GTO is the most difficult thing in the entire world to drive.
