As many of you know, the fact that my Falcon's engine smokes badly, has kind of got me down and looking for other vehicles. I just had an idea on an engine swap to a 300 6cyl, as 200 6's arn't somthing you find redally available in local junkyards around here but, tons of early 80's Ford pickups with carbbed 300's. I have heard of this being done to early mustangs so I know it is possible with my falcon but, what will I have to do to make it fit, are the mounts diffrent?, if it won't take too much to put 1 in, I'll call the local yards for the best price and work on getting it in over the next few weeks. I got the engine hoist. This is probably my only way at being able to sell the falcon. I can make some fiberglass cast's of the good parts of the wheelwells so I can amaturely fix them, as I'm no metalworker and new 1/4's are not available, very little is available for '67-'69 Falcons. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

I'm a big fan of the 300 Inline 6's,,,of course a 302 will bolt up with the same amount of work it takes for the 300 six,,,,you gonna have to find a carbed one though,,,or you'll be looking at running a computer for a fuel injected engine,,,,which in it'self is realy no big deal,,you can find a donor car easy,,and grab the whole works. Look for a 300 pickup with a toploader 4-overdrive trans and drop the whole thing in. Or a 302, same tranny, will work too.

What will I have to do to fit it in? I don't want to have to change spindals or anything but I have seen V8 converted Mustangs and Falcons with 4 lug spindals and original 8" rears?Originally posted by R Pope

matt, here is a mustang with a 240 6 cyl. in it. 2400 lb. 315 hp. the tourch was used on this one though, just a little. it had a chev. 4 speed trans. so i guess thats what made it run so good. first race car i built about 30 yrs ago. where did the time go? Mike

What did you have to do to it to make it fit? I know I can find the setup R pope is talking about. Havn't got a cutting torch but, I do have a little 100 amp stick welder that I can cut with. It will also sell better if it has a 4spd and a better engine so, if it is possible with little or, well put it as a cheaper conversion. I would get the engine/ trans from a u pull yard, and just get the mounts also to put it in the falcon. Would I really have to change the spindals? Even if I do, I now know of a small early mustang junk yard, pretty close. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

i don't think you would have to worry about the spindles, for a st car no way. if it sat to low put some spacers in the springs. the reason i didn't say anything about the installation is, that mustang was cut up so bad nothing on it was stock. far as i know though its like everybody said, it a bolt in. the reason i used a chev. 4 speed is we couldn't run a quickchange so the chev. trans. had the best ratio for the track i was running the exhaust might have to be worked with a little, but it shouldn't be a bad job. Cool. I'll go down to my grandfathers, and ask if I can look at his old '88 150 so I can see if I would need to change the mounts on the engine, so they will fit to my frame mounts. Thanks Mike. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

I looked closely at the motor mounts, they are side mount, actully almost confirmed a 302 will bolt right up also, mounts look the same. I'm gonna go thursday to a u pull it yard and find a good 300 I6w/ carb or a 302. If it comes down to a few to chose from, I'm gonna take the lowest mialage engine/ trans. Where and how do I get a clutch set up when my car is an auto? Can I take the pedal assembly from the donor vehicle? Thanks. You don't know what you've got til it's gone

But I bet with a grinder and few other tools, I can make them work, if they don't in the first place. You don't know what you've got til it's gone
