454 to 427
i have a few bbc 454's 1 396 lots of extra parts i want to convert an 454 to a 427 i have a set of 12:1 427 pistons and a 427 crank what all to i need to convert this i am putting this engine in a 84 chevy s10 to run street and strip any advice? Thanks73 chevy 4x4 mud truck 454

I am positive the crank and pistons will fit fine. They both have the same main J., bore, and rod J. size so I dont why not. I am new with the big blocks but acording to my papers they are the same.joe bogger

A 396-427 crank in a 454 block is a drop -in, you'll have no problems doing the swap, you'll have to use a neutral balance flywheel/flexplate and balancer since the 454 is externally balanced.
I also have a 454 and wanted to make a 427 out of it but got convinced not to do it because the shorter stroke would lower torque output, and torque is a good thing to have!
I'd like to build a 427 though, high revs are also fun
