Struck Gold in a old machine shop today!

Took my 351c 2-V heads in to the machine shop to have them
cleaned up and get the pedestals ground down and tapped
for guide plates. While the machinist was putting my heads
in the hot tank I decided to look around.
What did I come acrossed but a set of 71 boss 351 Quench
combustion chamber heads. The smallest chambers I've ever seen on a cleveland head with the biggest valves.
When I asked the mashinist about them, He said that a guy dropped them off about six mounths ago and never came back to
get them. I then said and there still here,no one bought them.
He said there are not to many clevelands around any more and
that not to many people wanted them.
He had just put new valves and Guids,springs,seals.
Well he TOTALLY rebuilt them, plus they allready had guide plates. So what did I do, I yelled HOW MUCH?
He said $500, I said very quickly I'll be back first thing in the morning and put my springs on there please.
He said they will be ready for you!
I struck gold in that there Machine Shop, think I'll do some more looking around tomarrow. HE! HE! HE! Happy Days.

PS I found an old Torker Intake manifold for the 4-V cleveland heads, already. It just keeps getting better. What a wonderful Day.

Vegas ~ I have no idea what all that means...but if you are excited about it...i'm excited 4 U! I imagine it's like me finding a NOS Plastic dome light lens for my deluxe dome light for 3 bucks an not having to bid on a salvaged dome light an end up paying 50 bucks for the whole unit when all i needed in the first place was the lens... my kids thought i had flipped my lid...I ran right out into the garage an put it right on an just stared at it...duh. Ok, so maybe your find was a little more exciting ha ha! :rolleyes: :D

Sounds like a good deal, Vegas. Only thing I have ever "discovered" in my machinist's shop is this big huge bill I keep paying on, and paying on, and........ The heads should work great. Where you going to end up on compression ratio.???

Jerilynne; I had a 67 mustang that was missing a dome light lens for years. That light with no lens would blind a person.
So I know exactly how you felt to find them, not only that but it looks alot better.

Dave; I have not realy made up my mind yet on the compression.
The only reason I bought the heads is I found out Crower makes
a stroker crank for the cleveland. {400} I read that the 4-V heads run good with a stroked cleveland on the street. Unlike the small stroke of the 302. I'm also gonna buy the steel crower rods as well. Ran into a couple of problems today, The Internet went down here in seffner last night. That's why I'm just now replying.
The springs I gave to the machine shop are not right, and don't even come close to what the spec's are suposed to be.
Spring height is way off and so is the pressure/pounds.
The Machinist said he doesn't even think that they are Ford springs, He thinks there for a Dodge. So now I have to call the cam company to straiten every thing out, plus make sure the cam and lifters are right too. Oh Joy, if you know what I mean.
When I pick up the heads, I'll send some photo's they look impresive.

PS Called Erson cams and their sending some new springs.
They will be here monday morning, Unlike Pro"s hood,
Just a little dig Pro, just kidding. but it does make it a little
funnier when it's some one else. HE! HE! HE!

good job scoring those heads.... but beware dealing with crower, they have the worst customer support, and they dont really know much about ford products.... they make great seatbelts though :D
