    Help on timing issues.

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, here's what I got. 350 brand new rebuilt everything new and it was running pretty good a few days ago but I got a stupid moment and thought I can do better then the engine guy. Well I thought I was 180 out cause I thought the engine was running rough! Dah I have a monster cam in it so I removed the dizzy and the wires cause I had no room for the cap to sit. So I crank the engine to tdc 0 on the marker I check to see if Pistons tdc on number one all seems good. I then I stab the distr and get the rotor pointing at number 1. I install the wires. HEI cap I check my wiring with the web. And all I get is a spurt from the carb and no start. I did this 3 times today. Help

Welcome to the forum. You say you brought it around to TDC with the mark on zero, but you don't say that you had a finger in your #1 plug hole to ensure that you were on the compression stroke. Sounds to me like you were at TDC on the #1 exhaust stroke, so you are now indeed 180 degrees out on your dizzy.

Sorry if I mis-understood your post.

When I put the 0 on the balancer. I then put a wire in the spark hole to see if the
Piston was there. It seemed to be. If I do the finger thing do I also worry about the 0 mark on the balancer

Yes, you have to do both. Finger in the plug hole to feel compression as the piston is coming up from the bottom of the stroke, then forget about that and line up the 0 mark on the balancer. You should then be at TDC compression #1. A remote starter switch hooked to the starter solenoid makes it an easier one man job, or pull all of the plugs and use a breaker bar to turn the crank as you feel for compression.

Well That's lovely! Welcome to the forum. You say you brought it around to T.D.C with the mark on zero, but you don't say that you had a finger in your #1 plug hole to ensure that you were on the compression stroke. Resolve your problem from Orlando Limo Service

Roger is right on the money, I'm 100% sure that is your problem. I've used to stick them in with a 50/50 chance of getting it right and almost always had to take it back out and turn it 180 deg to get it right.

Yeah, I clicked "Report Post" with the message "SPAMMER?" but it didn't get any action. The date jumped out at me because I didn't recall posting that advice recently

Most fellows aren't thinking that the piston comes to top dead center twice for one bang. Thanks Roger.
