NHRA announced Pro Stock rule changes during qualifying at the Mile High Nationals. I think it is about time for them to go to fuel injection. Warren Johnson said quite a while ago: "you can't even buy a weed eater with a carburetor any more." Here they are, what do you think?

Wow, prepare to watch the field slow down until the learning curve catches up. There should be lots of high-buck carburetors available soon on Racing Junk.

I am curious about the "complete spec fuel injection system that all competitors must use" and the NHRA controlled 10,500 RPM rev limiter as a component. Restrictor plate racing? Can an engine spec be far behind ala NASCAR? Seems like this will limit the innovators and creative engineers.
Maybe we can go back to a vehicle that actually looks like what the manufacturer builds, probably not. Next let's go back to 1/4 mile drag racing with ONE fuel pump, ONE mag and smaller blowers and make it across the board.
hood openings and /or hood scoops ( other than original equipment) prohibited .... cant wait to see that ...

I find myself watching the sportsmen races more and more.
I think that's the motivation, give the manufacturers more exposure and maybe we will have more than 15 cars showing up to a race. NHRA is struggling, they need to do something to put butts in the seats and attract corporate participation.
Shorter wheelie bars to encourage more wheelstands? That doesn't particularly sound safe to me.
They have followed NASCAR into the box! Let's toss out any creativity, make a rules package so tight that there aren't any differences between cars.
So they walked into the box and no fans followed them in there. I must admit that I am still confused how they (NHRA) blatantly cut Harley Davidson a power and weight break to make them competitive some years back .. and then tightened the rules each year to slow them down.
But they refuse to do that for the Ford team and some of the other privateer teams.. curious?? NAH, they just love the GM dollars is all! (imho)

No matter where they settle on the rules package-they will still need hood scoops and room for ram tubes in the intake--
Making the teams be more open to the fans in the pits will help spectator and spectators buy cars!!!!!!!!
I'm surprised they've lasted this long. I worked for 'em in '91 and '92 and I got a belly full of how they treated the racers pretty quickly.Quote:

About the only SPONSER that is reaping anything from NHRA racing is Summit--------Whoever heard of ELITE ???????????

The only teams that win are the big bucks teams. Force, DSR, Summit, Elite. The little guy has no chance in the pro's. Funny cars are all the same with different stickers on the front and same with pro stock.
And with all the rules being set by NHRA, pretty soon, we are NASCAR with blowers and fuel.
I do like drag racing and always have ,but anymore it is boring
. If you see the stands at a major event, they are empty. It all boils down to the ones in charge have no idea how to run things and far be it they ask the racers for their opinion.
