US Nats at Indy!!!!! Anyone going? Sure do wish I was there!!!!!!!!
We're headed to the "Big Go East" in about a week. Another forum I'm on has been getting together at midwest race tracks once a summer for the last 8 yrs. This year we're going to Bud's Creek for a change (dubbed The Big Go East by us). We're going early so we can stop off at Gettysburg, then we're stopping by the Smithsonian and Arlington & a few other tourist type places. Then for the weekend we're heading to the track for the 5th Annual Legends at Budds Creek – Sept. 13-14/and our 9th Annual DragList Nats.
I won't be going. I'm still tying up loose ends for our show next weekend.
US Nats / Indy - that's a bucket list item for certain!!
Maybe I need to get it higher on the list???
I miss the Indy race!!! I grew up 90 miles from there, and went every year from '62 to '74, when I moved to the Southwest.
Those were great times, and you have to appreciate that Indy is STILL thought of as the biggest and most exciting event of all!
I have even noticed that more pros seem to show up for this than any other events.
I see my boy Del went #1 in the first session. :-)
Indy --
An Event Worthy To Be Called Its Own
Traxxas Shootout, qualifying, and some of the final rounds from the rainout at Brainard on today
Sarge just went 3.767---could be a really good weekend, think a win and he beats Glidden for US Nats wins???????
Way Kewl!!!! Big re-enacting the beard shaving deal at Indy!!!!! What a racer!
Just tuned in.. Courtney won.
No------------John beat Robert in the Shoot out---
No, I meant when I tuned in, Courtney had just won the round..
Oh, sorry-------------
I was at the starting line standing about 20 feet from Garlits when he shaved the beard! ...but I don't think he will remember me. {:-)
I had a photographer trying to push past me. I later saw a picture... I think in Car Craft ...of him shaving, and the back of my head to one side of the picture. LOL!
Did they say why he was losing the beard?
Back years ago he once grew a beard until he won at Indy where he shaved it off in the winners circle
this morning when I turned on computer and facebook had a NHRA post with a pic of our front engine car!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hotrod Paint---NHRA facebook has today and back then pics of Don shaving---is that the pic you talkin about???
https://www.facebook.com/NHRA/photos...461410/?type=1
Hate to say it, but Don does look a bit older in the 2nd pic!!!!!!!:LOL::LOL::LOL: Geez, '67 wasn't that long ago, was it????:whacked:
Nitro costs less then than gas today
I would have loved to been there in "67", He beat my hero James Warren in the finals.
Track looks slippery today
Actually I believe he swore not to shave the beard until he went into the sixes.
He did it bigtime because he didn't put together a six second pass until the final... then it was the second quickest EVER... AND he won the event with it!
Jerry, Not the picture. I'm pretty sure I was on the other side opposite this shot. I may have that magazine around here somewhere! {:-)
Crampton, DeJoria & Shane Gray, top Winners at Indy.
Mick
Was a good show. Tom "Mongoose" McEwen and Don "Snake" Prudohme (spelling??) it was great to hear their stories!
And Bob Glidden too!
I agree! A lot more history included in the coverage this year. I think the race deserves to be treated this way. It is the "grand-daddy" of drag race events!
no channel switching for 6 hours------------
I took the day off to watch it! :-)
I threw the In-Laws out of the man cave! They wouldn't stop talking..
