In the mid 80's we lost are 1/8 mile drag strip right on the west side of Sioux Falls because of silly feud between the track operators and the fairgrounds board.... It was the place to hang out on Saturday night!!!! Since it closed all the locals have gone back to hunting down a remote chunk of blacktop to run on..and of course a bit of stoplight action downtown. When the city complains about street racing, there always seems to be a group show up at the City Council meeting with a proposal to re-open the 1/8 mile track at the fairgrounds and it's always shot down....
Where in the heck do these municipalities get the idea that because they shut down the dragstrip, people are going to quit racing????
I saw last night on fb about John. The world sure lost a great one. I'm going to miss his humor, advice, and perspective from another portion of the world. Rest in Peace Johnboy.
